<h3>'The evolution at Girardin' by Bruce Sanderson</h3>

<p>'Girardin has been making some changes over the past few years. The overall goal is to work more naturally; the wines are showing more purity and focus as a result.
In 1998, he began moving to more organic cultivation. In 2008, the conversion to biodynamic viticulture started and since 2009 he has commenced the process for biodynamic certification. He plans to be fully converted by 2011.
This of course will apply to Girardin’s 54 acres of domaine holdings. He also purchases fruit and a little juice from long-term agreements with growers to ensure consistency from vintage to vintage.'</p>

<h3>Biodynamic culture: labours in the vinyeards</h3>

<p>Dear Friends,
As we enter the second year of the the three-year process required for biodynamic certification of the Domaine's wines, the vineyard staff work in the vineyards.
- October:
Compost spreading to energize the soil and plants,
- Cow manure preparation or "500 P": when added to the soil in the vineyards it creates humus, which is important as it improves the structure of the soil. This preparation was spread last October 14 and 15 during the waning crescent moon, which is better for soil penetration.
- November:
Making holes in the vinyeards: it enables us to pull the old or ill vines up and to prepare the new planting.
Mounding the soil around the base of the vines to uncompress the soil to help the soil breathe and to increase the microbial life.
- December:
Guyot pruning
